General Description

Provide nursing supervision for all full-time, part-time, and per diem nursing staff (approximately 4-6) associated with the Community Crisis Stabilization Program (CCS – Pomeroy House) and Department of Mental Health Respite Services (Brenton House).  Provide direct care services including psychiatric nursing care, i.e., assessment, medication, education and monitoring of medication regimes and supervision of the general health care of residential clients.

Essential Job Functions

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Document regularly scheduled supervision of nursing staff
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring of nursing staff
  • Provide training and orientation to new nursing staff
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Medical Director and Program Director to review and update existing medical protocols, and promote a strong team effort
  • Coordinate psychiatric schedules, prioritizing those clients with immediate needs
  • Supervise nursing schedule, ensuring that all shifts/nursing duties are covered as required.
  • Manage on-call nursing list
  • Serve as liaison to pharmacies
  • Review medical related incident reports
  • Participate in all required staff meetings, trainings and required supervision

Direct Care Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate medication services
  • Pass medications; package medications as necessary
  • Provide nursing assessment per crisis protocol
  • Complete nursing documentation for admissions and discharges
  • Provide and supervise nursing care/general health care
  • Assess clients and communicate observations and recommendations to physicians
  • Provide basic and emergency medical care and make appropriate referrals
  • Provide information and training on health related and medications issues to clients and families
  • Work collaboratively with other nurses in residential and psychiatric services
  • Provide training / education to staff / clients
  • Transport clients as necessary
  • May lead group activities related to client health and/or psychiatric needs.
  • Intervene effectively in a crisis

Other Responsibilities

  • Currently licensed as R.N. in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • At least two years experience as a  licensed  RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (preferably psychiatric nursing experience)
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of psychotropic medications
  • Experience in case coordination:
    1. Ability to objectively assess clients and advocate for needed treatment
    2. Effectively work with local physicians and their staffs
    3. Oversee implementation of medical recommendations
  • Experience in sharing skills with staff and clients
  • Ability to work with a diverse population with a range of psychiatric disabilities


  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Leadership skills: Ability to build group consensus, think and act quickly when necessary, and facilitate change
  • Clinical expertise in crisis theory and intervention
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Knowledge of DSM V
  • Knowledge of community resources
