Acute Services - Licensed Practical Nurses - All Shifts

Available Full and Part-Time, with Full-Time being Monday - Friday, 330 PM to 1130 PM as well as part-time weekends!

General Description

Provide psychiatric nursing care, i.e., assessment, medication, education and monitoring of medication regimes and supervision of the general health care of residential clients.  Provide supervision for residents while assisting in daily living activities.

Essential Job Functions

Direct Care Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate medication services
  • Provide nursing assessment per crisis protocol
  • Provide and supervise nursing care/general health care
  • Assess clients and communicate observations and recommendations to physicians
  • Provide basic and emergency medical care and make appropriate referrals
  • Provide information and training on health related and medications issues to consumers and families
  • Work collaboratively with other nurses in residential and psychiatric services
  • Provide training / education to staff / clients
  • Transport clients as necessary
  • Assist in meal preparation as needed
  • Provide supervision in response to client’s fluctuating needs
  • Evaluate, train and physically assist consumers in activities of daily living (ADL), work, and community activities in group and individual situations while encouraging independence.
  • Intervene effectively in a crisis

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain clinical records and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Administration of medication and appropriate documentation of medications.
  • Obtaining physician’s orders, transcribing and verification of orders.
  • Admission nursing assessment and discharges
  • Coordinate psychiatric schedules ensuring the prioritizing of those consumers with immediate needs
  • Serve as liaison to pharmacies, doctors and clinicians
  • Participate in all required staff meetings, trainings and required supervision

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as LPN license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Possess and maintain the Healthcare Provider (BLS) level of CPR or obtain within the first 5 months of employment
  • Sound knowledge of normal personality growth and development
  • Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of psychotropic medications
  • Experience in case coordination:
  1. Ability to objectively assess clients and advocate for needed treatment
  2. Effectively work with local physicians and their staffs
  3. Oversee implementation of medical recommendations
  • Experience in sharing skills with staff and clients
  • Ability and propensity to work with a diverse population with a range of psychiatric disabilities
  • Ability to interact with clients in a consistent empowering manner

Skills

  • Working knowledge of computer
  • Psychiatric experience preferred
